GOLETA

Barco velero de dos o tres palos, ligero y de bordas poco elevadas, dedicado principalmente al trafico comercial y a pesca de altura.

Sailing ship with two or three masts, light, with low gunwales. It was a sailing ship principally dedicated to commercial trade and to deep-sea fishing.

U.S.S. CONSTITUTION

Fragata estadounidense de tres puentes botada en 1797. Sus actuaciones mas gloriosas, que le valieron el nombre mítico de "Old Ironside", las tenemos en el transcurso de la guerra contra Inglaterra en el año de 1812.

A three deck American frigate launched in 1797. Popularly known as "Old Ironside" due to its successful engagements in the war against England on 1812.

SANTA MARIA

Fletada y comandada por el mismo Colon, era una nao de tres palos, mayor que las otras dos, mas pesada ( de unas 105 toneladas) lenta y poco apropiada para tal travesia.

Under command of Columbus himself, this was a ship with three masts, it was larger than the other two (weighting around 105 tons), and slow, not very adequate for such a crossing.

PINTA

Carabela de velas cuadradas. Bajo el mando de Martín Alonso Pinzón, el 22 de Noviembre de 1492, decido probar suerte por su cuenta: rompió con Colon y se dirigió hacia el Este. El resultado de la expedición fue el descubrimiento de La Española (Santo Domingo).

A square-sail caravel. Under the charge of Martin Alonso Pinzon, who on 22nd November 1492, decided to make an attempt on his own, separating from Columbus and setting out towards the East. The result of that expedition was the discovery of "La Española" (Santo Domingo).

NIÑA

Excelente embarcación de velas latinas. Era el navío de mejor calidad y pudo realizar los tres primeros viajes.

FRAGATE
